Accountant
Description
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting project costing and cash flow management, and ensuring the company's full compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations across its engineering and construction projects.
Responsibilities
• Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, ledgers and reconciliations in line with applicable accounting standards.
• Manage project-based costing, budgeting and expenditure tracking for engineering, construction and power projects.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital and funding requirements across ongoing site and project operations.
• Process accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, client invoicing and contractor certificates.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analyses and financial reports for leadership review.
• Ensure timely remittance of statutory obligations, including PAYE, VAT, WHT, Pension and other applicable levies.
• Support internal and external audits, and maintain audit-ready financial documentation.
• Liaise with banks, regulatory bodies and project stakeholders on financial and compliance matters.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and support cost control on equipment, materials and site expenditure.
• Assist in the preparation of tender and bid financial documentation as required.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Professional accounting certification (ICAN, ACCA or equivalent) is required.
• Minimum of 5 years' relevant accounting experience, ideally within engineering, construction, power or a similarly project-driven sector.
• Strong working knowledge of Nigerian tax and statutory compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Sage, QuickBooks or similar ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project accounts simultaneously.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality and sound financial judgement.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
